Workers with the American Red Cross continue to help the victims of the explosions at the finish line at the Boston Marathon Monday afternoon.
According to officials, the Red Cross has already provided about 450 additional blood products to Boston area hospitals.
Currently, the agency has enough blood to meet the needs of those affected by the Boston Marathon explosions.
However, in the coming weeks and months more blood will be need and interested parties are advised to make an appointment by clicking the following link or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
Type O negative blood is the most often used in emergencies, Red Cross officials said.
Mental health workers are also being brought into the city to help "those who will need emotional support in the coming days."
"The Red Cross will be working in close coordination with officials to determine how else we can best help the community and support emergency workers," The American Red Cross said in a statement Monday.
The Connecticut chapter of the American Red Cross has deployed several volunteers to Boston.
"Our hearts go out to everyone in Boston dealing with this tragedy and our thoughts are with all of those injured," the chapter said in a statement Tuesday.
Two bombs exploded seconds apart along the crowded street near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon killing at least three people and injuring more than 170 people.
