NHL hoping to keep Coyotes in Phoenix

DETROIT (AP) -

-- NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says the league is committed to keeping the Phoenix Coyotes in Arizona.

Speaking during the league's announcement of the 2014 Winter Classic on Sunday, Bettman said the NHL is not exploring alternative options to keeping the team in Phoenix and that there is considerable interest from several potential owners.

Canadian businessmen George Gosbee and Anthony LeBlanc submitted a purchase bid last week, and a group led by Buffalo, N.Y. businessman Darin Pastor also put in a proposal.

Greg Jamison, whose deal fell through when he couldn't meet a deadline with the City of Glendale, is still working on a deal, and former suitor Matthew Hulsizer is reportedly interested.

The Coyotes have been run by the NHL since 2009.
