A Metro police officer has been released from the hospital after being assaulted during a traffic stop in Antioch on Wednesday night.
Jairo Hoseas Santos, 37, is jailed on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, evading arrest and driving on a revoked license after running from Officer Garret Blunier.
Police said Santos was found at 3:35 a.m. hiding in the attic of his home on Mossdale Drive.
At 8:57 p.m. Wednesday, Blunier saw a white Chevrolet Suburban run a stop sign at the intersection of Owendale and Mossdale drives.
After the officer attempted to pull him over, Santos pulled into the driveway of a vacant home on Owendale Drive. Santos complied with Blunier's request to step out of the vehicle.
Police said as they got to the rear of the Suburban, Santos began running.
Blunier gave chase over a short distance, caught Santos once, but he was able to break away and continued running.
During the chase, Blunier suffered injuries to his head and face, which may have resulted from hitting a tree limb in the darkness.
He lost consciousness briefly before officers came to his aid. Blunier was transported to Summit Medical Center for treatment and was later released.
While Blunier was engaged with Santos, two of the three other occupants of the Suburban fled on foot. The third, a female juvenile, was standing outside the vehicle when Metro Officer Guy Struder arrived.
Police said Struder detained the girl, radioed for an ambulance for Blunier and worked to clear the area of any additional immediate threats. He later found a second female juvenile hiding in a backyard on Owendale Drive.
Interviews with the two girls led to the identification of Santos and his arrest.
