FOREST CITY, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Some Forest City residents said they have a noisy neighbor that many people may have heard of.

Bob Street lives on land that runs alongside the Facebook data center in Rutherford County. He said the center runs loud generators at all hours of the day, sometimes at 3 or 4 a.m.

Street said Facebook employees would not talk to him about the noise, so he asked local lawmakers for help.

"We've tried to get in touch with them for the last year,' Street said. "Town Manager of Forest City and some of the town council have tried to help us and get the facilitators at Facebook to talk to us. And no one has called us and acknowledged that we exist."

Facebook's site manager Keven McCammon released a statement that said the center strives to be a good neighbor.

"Facebook's Forest City data center strives to be a good neighbor. Our operations require that we sometimes test our generator, but we have restricted such tests to business hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Aside from periodic testing, generators are for as-needed use only and such instances are extraordinarily rare."

McCammon also said the Facebook team also planted trees and shrubs, "To help mitigate the hum of the generator on those infrequent occasions when it's on."

The data center officially opened in the spring of 2012.
