The suspect then allegedly fired a round at the DPS officer following behind him, but did not hit anything, Graves said.
The driver went on and off the freeway while an unmarked DPS car followed him.
The suspect then exited the highway and headed south on Jackrabbit Trail.
The suspect eventually stopped and pulled over onto the side of the road, at which point Avondale Police pulled up behind him and released K-9 units into the car, Graves said.
"One of our officers fired a round at the suspect," Graves said. "I'm not clear yet whether that's before or after the K9s arrived, and to this point we don't know if that round hit the suspect or not. We do know that the suspect was bit by the K-9s."
The suspect was then taken to St. Joseph's hospital in Phoenix.
"He was talking to us, so they're not life threatening injuries," Graves said.
Scottsdale police spokesman Sgt. Mark Clark told CBS 5 News the department has not confirmed the man is a suspect in Tuesday's carjacking in Scottsdale. "The DPS arrestee is clearly a lead in our case," he said.
