Man arrested in deadly pot deal in Phoenix

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix police say they've arrested a man in connection to a drug deal that turned deadly in Phoenix.

Daniel Albert Alvarado, 29, is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Daniel Alvarado admitted he and Danny Alvarado planned to sell about 12 to 15 pounds of marijuana, according to police.

On June 2, 2012, Daniel and Danny Alvarado went to a home in the 8900 block of West Vernon for the pot deal.

They met with three men and as they discussed the drug deal, the two men pulled out handguns and fired at Daniel and Danny Alvarado, hitting Daniel in the torso and buttocks before he fled the home. Daniel Alvarado said he knew Danny Alvarado was shot. Daniel Alvarado ran from the home and hid near a fence at a neighbor's house, according to police.

Danny Alvarado later died.

Police recovered the vehicle that Daniel Alvarado drove away in, and officers say they found that the vehicle had been set on fire and there was blood on the driver's seat.

Daniel Alvarado is now facing charges for first-degree murder and two counts of selling marijuana.

Daniel Alvarado pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning to the first-degree murder charges and the two counts of selling marijuana. There will be a pre-trial conference Monday, May 6, 2013 at 8:30 a.m.

No other details were released on the three men Daniel and Danny Alvarado were attempting to sell pot to.
