Extra security in Strongsville for teachers strike
STRONGSVILLE, OH (WOIO) -
Extra security was on hand for the second day of the teachers strike in Strongsville. Close to 400 teachers are on strike, leaving eleven schools filled with substitutes.
Tuesday morning proved to be much quieter than Monday, when picketing teachers screamed at the arriving substitutes and even tried to block the entrance to the middle school. Police were forced to intervene and issued a warning to picketers.
Students at the high school on Monday described a chaotic scene. Not enough substitutes and students being loud and rowdy.
The district was better prepared on Tuesday, and had more subs scheduled.
The district is asking teachers to pay more of the healthcare costs. They are also asking them to freeze how they get paid back.
