Toxicology reports released from autopsy of Meriden teen

MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) -
According to the autopsy, there were no drugs or alcohol found in Deandre Felton's system when he was stabbed to death. But police said they ordered follow-up testing because marijuana is not routinely a test the medical examiner does.
His mother and father are working with an investigator to clear Felton's name.
According to police reports, Felton, 15, and his friend DeShawn Jones, 13, were with a large group at the mall on Kensington Avenue on the night of Sept. 21. After a fight with an unknown man, both were stabbed.
Felton ran off and later died after he was stabbed in the chest. Jones was taken to Hartford Hospital where he later recovered from his injuries.
Witnesses told police the two were high and Felton had said he "wanted trouble." According to toxicology results the family got from the medical examiner, there was no alcohol or "basic drugs" detected in Felton's system.
"It's been hurtful, very hurtful and I don't feel this is what happened," said Valda Felton, who is Deandre Felton's mother.
However, police point out they requested a follow-up test specifically for marijuana because that is not routinely tested for in an autopsy.
Police also told Eyewitness News that witnesses never saw the teens using marijuana and that they only said they were using it.
Police said whether the teens were high has no bearing on their case anyway because the decision not to charge the man who stabbed the teens was based on the seven witnesses who say the teens attacked the man, punching him and throwing him to the ground.
And the man told investigators he only took out his knife to scare the teens, not stab them. Deandre Felton's family plans to continue pursuing answers.
"I think he was murdered. Like I said, I want to justice on it," said Gary Felton, who is Deandre Felton's father. "I didn't think he should be at here and my son is in the graveyard, hell no."
The investigator working with the Felton family said he just received the follow-up report dated Feb. 10 with the results of the marijuana use.
The investigator said it shows he had small amounts. The medical examiner would not provide the results to Eyewitness News because the tests have privacy protection.
