More than $50 million in federal assistance has been granted to Connecticut residents affected by Superstorm Sandy.
According to state officials, 12,380 Connecticut residents in Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven and New London counties, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribal Nation have registered for assistance.
The money can be used to help homeowners, renters and small business owners.
The Small Business Administration has also approved loans to small business owners amounting to more than $36.5 million.
Gov. Dannel Malloy also extended the deadline to apply for assistance has ended.
"I want to thank FEMA for extending the deadline to apply for disaster assistance not once but twice," Malloy said in a statement Thursday. "With over 12,000 claims filed, clearly many residents took advantage of the help they were entitled to. Getting back to normal after a disaster like this is paramount, and the assistance from FEMA was undeniably a big factor for many in making that possible."
Even though the registration deadline has passed, people can still check their applications or get help by clicking the following link or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
