WESTPORT, CT (WFSB) -

A private kindergarten to 12th grade school in Westport was placed in lockdown Friday afternoon after a suspect left the gateway vehicle at the building.

A resident of  Blue Ribbon Drive observed a car being driven away from the neighborhood just before 10:30 a.m.

Five minutes later, police tried to stop the vehicle near the Sherwood Island Connector. However, the driver was able to elude officers and they lost sight of him between exits 19 and 20.

The suspect dumped the car at the Greens Farm Academy on Beachside Avenue, which was in session at the time.

When police arrived at the school, officers noticed the front door of the building open and began a lockdown. Investigators searched the area with a K9 unit, however the suspect was not located.

Police said they believe that the suspect stole another car from the rear lot of the school.

No one was seriously injured during the incident.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Westport Police Department at 203-341-6080.
