The West Hartford Police Department arrested the caretaker for an 88-year-old woman, who went missing early Thursday morning, because she is accused of reporting her disappearance two hours after it occurred.
Officers were called to the Plant Senior Housing Complex on Farmington Avenue after Raisa Shnitman, who suffers from Dementia, went missing around 3 a.m.
After a search of the area around the building, officers located Shnitman in a snowbank near the rear of the complex around 9:30 a.m.
Police said Shnitman was suffering from hypothermia and had cuts on her hands and feet. She was taken to St. Francis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Caregiver Salomat Nishonova, 59, was arrested and charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and interfering with an officer.
Surveillance video showed that Nishonova lied to officers about when she last saw Shnitman and waited two hours to call her family about the disappearance.
