(Source: CBS 5 News) Jodi Arias is expected to continue describing for jurors the day she killed her ex-boyfriend in his Mesa apartment in June 2008.
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Jodi Arias claimed she doesn't remember shooting or stabbing her ex-boyfriend to death, but remembers having both weapons in his Mesa apartment in June 2008.
Arias, who was on the stand for the eighth day of testimony Wednesday, said she and Travis Alexander got into a raging fight after she dropped his camera while they were getting ready to get into his shower for a "photo shoot."
The 32-year-old Arias said she did not have a gun or knife when they went to the shower, but after Alexander became angry and began chasing her, she grabbed a gun from his closet. She said she pointed it at him to get him to stop chasing her, but he lunged at her and the gun went off.
"I didn't mean to shoot," she testified, adding that she didn't think she had hit Alexander.
She also testified she didn't remember stabbing Alexander, but that she did recall dropping a bloody knife and that she was "freaked out" and "screaming." She later said she remembered putting the knife in a dishwasher, but recanted that statement later.
She said her next clear memory was driving away and she did recall throwing the gun in the desert.
The jury also learned that Arias went to Alexander's memorial service in Mesa.
Once she was arrested, she told police she wasn't at Alexander's house the night he was killed. She later told detectives about a man and woman breaking into Alexander's house.
On multiple occasions during Wednesday's testimony Arias referenced her plans to commit suicide. Arias said she wanted to die before Alexander's birthday on July 28.
Arias told the jury that CBS News reached out to her family to do an interview with her. She said she wanted the world to believe she loved Alexander and to see her as just a "normal person." She said her initial interview was in August of 2008 and she said she hoped to commit suicide before the interview aired. She did a second interview in September of 2008 in Maricopa County.
Arias is on trial for the first-degree murder of Alexander, whom she admitted killing in self-defense. Alexander was stabbed 27 times, had his throat slit and was shot in the head.
Wednesday is the eighth day she has spent on the stand detailing her relationship with Alexander and the event that she said led to his death.
