More heavy equipment arrives to help with snow cleanup

Nearby states sent heavy equipment such as bucket loaders, graters and bobcats to help remove the historic snowfall left by Blizzard Charlotte.

A total of eight pieces of equipment arrived at Camp Niantic Tuesday night to help towns with its cleanup efforts.

East Hartford has more than 30 trucks and is using all of them to help clear the snow. However, officials said they could use more, especially bigger ones that can haul away snow.

"The trucks would get stuck," said East Hartford Department of Public Works Director Tim Bochus. "We would have to pull over trucks off different plow routes and try to pull them out."

In Bolton, they have 5 trucks. During this weekend's storm, they had to bring out a 43-year-old truck that they weren't planning on using anymore. However, a new truck cost about $160,000.

"It would be nice to have some more equipment for a storm like this," said Bolton Highway Foreman Lance Dimrock.

The governor said more equipment is need even after some arrived from Pennsylvania and Maine.
