Waterbury Mayor Neil O'Leary said progress has been made to remove snow from city streets, but a lot of work remains.
According to O'Leary, more than 1,000 streets have been cleared, and city officials are working as hard as possible to get snow off roads that remain covered.
In addition to roads being closed, O'Leary said Municipal Stadium is currently under 8 or 9 feet of snow due to drifting. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection gave the city permission to dump the massive amounts of snow into the Naugatuck River.
"They came out with a pay loader yesterday and stopped right there," said Ralph Smith. "Another 80 feet and I could have been out."
So many Waterbury residents took cleanup efforts into their own hands.
"The city, I'm disappointed. This never happened," said Donald Smith of Waterbury. "I've lived up in this area for 37 years, and this never happened, ever."
O'Leary listed streets that have been cleared and said updates will be given as more are plowed and opened to traffic.
