PIMA COUNTY, AZ (CBS5) -

A professor at the University of Arizona died in a plane crash Friday morning. The body of 75-year-old Terril "Ted" Edward Wilson was found in the wreckage of the single-engine airplane.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department says the plane went down in a desert area just south of Ajo Highway near South Postvale Road. Once they found the wreckage, rescuers tried to save Wilson's life but were unsuccessful. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

Wilson is listed on the University of Arizona web site as an adjunct lecturer in the Mining and Geological Engineering Department. It's unknown where Wilson took off from or where he was going.
