Flights canceled at Bradley International Airport

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT (WFSB) -

Long before the first flakes started flying, flight cancellations started mounting up at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.

Waiting at the ticket counter, travelers tried their best, all hoping to get a flight out of Connecticut and beat Blizzard Charlotte.

Many checked the departure board and watched as the flight status switched from green to red and caught a few winks while others, like Jeff Henning, trying to get home to southern California, just waited.

"I got here at 4 a.m. trying to get out early," Henning said. "I'll try to get a room here. They're already booked until Tuesday, so I'll be here for another few days."

Others learned their fate a lot earlier.

Manuel Castro, of New Britain and in the Air Force, was trying to get back to his base in Okinawa, Japan.

No such luck.

His first flight to Washington, D.C. was canceled.

"I'm kind of upset about it, and anxious to get back home," he said. "I can't control mother nature. If she comes she comes."

For Castro, Mother Nature's wrath means the earliest they could rebook his flight is now Tuesday.

While the first cancellations started trickling in before the snow even started, by mid-morning, Bradley announced all flights after 1:30 p.m. were canceled.

"They rescheduled the flights for the earliest convenience for me and that's all you can do," Castro said. "It's out of my hands."
