HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Police in Hartford arrested a 22-year-old man after he allegedly hit a woman in the head with a brick Tuesday.

According to police, Jeffrey Acosta assaulted the woman with the piece of concrete at a home on James Street around 4 p.m.

The woman was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries, but police said she is expected to survive.

After receiving help from neighbors, police arrested Acosta Tuesday and charged him with first-degree assault. He is being held on a $500,000 bond and expected to be arraigned at Hartford Superior Court on Feb. 28.

Police said they believe that the assault was related to narcotics and was not random.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call 860-757-4089 or the tip line at 860-722-TIPS (8477). All tips will be kept confidential.
