COBLE, TN (WSMV) -
A round of cold, snowy winter weather isn't helping the hundreds of people in Middle Tennessee who are still cleaning up from this week's deadly tornadoes.
That's an especially big task in the Hickman County community of Coble, where nearly everyone had their home damaged by an EF-2 tornado early Wednesday.
Billy and Juanita Garner have lived in their Hickman County home for decades. Now, for more than two days, the Garners - who have been married 66 years - have been without power or water.
Billy Garner said a pipe to his well system was damaged when a storage shed landed on top of it, but thankfully he said two men showed up to help fix the well.
"I'm just going day by day. Maybe it will all work out," he said.
Down the road, it's a team effort to clean up the town's cemetery. More than a dozen state inmates cut up trees and hauled off wood from several fallen oak trees.
"I was unbelievably surprised when there are so many people already here when we got here, and they had cleaned up so much. I thank them so much," said Coble resident Edie Cornelius.
Cornelius' daughter is buried in the cemetery along with other family and friends. Luckily, her gravestone was left unharmed unlike many others.
All across the community, there's evidence of the power of the storm. But for those who can still live in their homes, many others are pitching in to help.
The Salvation Army provided some basic supplies in the days after the storm at what is now called Ground Zero for the recovery effort.
In total, more than 24 homes were damaged in the small town, and most of those are uninhabitable.
The Hickman County EMA director said cleanup efforts are expected to continue into next week.
And officials at Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative report power should now be back on to the folks in Coble.
A spokesperson said anyone who still doesn't have power should give the company a call.
