PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix police officer Peter "Chris" Bennett, who was shot in the face last month, will be recognized at Friday night's Phoenix Suns game.

He and his doctor will be made the honorary captains of the game.

Brandon McCabe is accused of shooting Bennett six times on Jan. 6.

The 36-year-old Bennett survived and is recovering from surgery to his face, right arm and right hip.

Police say Bennett approached McCabe in an area with a high burglary rate. They say McCabe ignored the officer's command, and the two exchanged gunfire.

McCabe was arrested after being found hiding in a shed. He had gunshot wounds to both hands.

Earlier this week, McCabe pleaded not guilty to attempted first-degree murder, misconduct involving weapons, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.
