From power outages to toppled trees, Thursday morning's wild weather caused quite a few problems for residents across the state, especially in Hartford County.
In Manchester, a large tree was brought down during the strong winds and landed on top of a home. The homeowner said she was sleeping when she heard a large crash at 4 a.m.
At first, she said, it sounded like a car accident, but when she looked out her window she said that's when she discovered a large tree was on top of her home.
It's probably not the best way to start a day. The tree had actually split into two pieces and fell on the Hilliard Street home.
"I was like, 'wow,'" said neighbor Debbie Polzun. "That's a pretty big limb to come down. I know it was windy last night, but, I was like 'holy cow.'"
Mother Nature was certainly in an atrocious mood Thursday after causing plenty of headaches for residents from Salisbury to Stonington and everywhere in between.
In East Hartford, police said power lines came down onto a school bus on Colt Street. With the bus and the students on their way to school, the road remained blocked and the power shut off so public works crews could clean up the mess.
For Kofi Kankan, who lives on Colt Street, the culprit was clear.
"It was the winds this morning," he said. "A lot a rain."
The building inspector was called to the Manchester home and although there was heavy damage to the roof and attic space, there was no real structural damage to the home and the residents are being allowed to stay in the home.
