NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Two survey teams with the National Weather Service will assess storm damage Wednesday in Middle Tennessee and three teams are set for Thursday.
Damage surveys are usually done as soon as possible after severe weather hits and are coordinated between the NWS and local officials.
Information typically collected from a local survey involves:
Location of damage (including width, length, path)
Type of damage
Intensity of damage (including peak wind speeds, rating)
Time damage occurred
Cause of damage (including tornado, straight line winds, etc.)
Public actions and observations
The first survey team will head westward to survey damage along a path from southern Humphreys County to southern Dickson County and to southern Cheatham County, from south of Waverly to near Dickson and to Kingston Springs.
This same team will survey another path of damage from Hickman County to Williamson County, from near Centerville to Franklin and Brentwood.
The second team will head northward to survey damage along a path from Robertson County into northern Sumner County, south of Springfield to near Portland.
This same team will survey another path of damage from northern Cheatham County across northern Davidson County and into central and southern Sumner County, Ashland City to Goodlettsville and Gallatin.
Surveys on Thursday will include viewing damage in Cannon County northeast of Woodbury, Rutherford County from Eagleville to Murfreesboro and along the Wilson-Trousdale county line.
Other possible damage paths to survey Thursday include damage in Clay and Coffee counties.
State officials declared a state of emergency due to the storm. Emergency officials are responding to requests from local governments for emergency resources, such as tarps or debris clearance.
