WOLCOTT, CT (WFSB) -

Wolcott police arrested a man they said violated his probation, and then discovered close to 1,000 images of child pornography on his computer.

Keith DePastino, 51, of Wolcott, was sentenced to 40 years in jail in 1988, suspended after 30 years with five years probation with the condition that if he were to be arrested again, he'd have to serve the remaining 10 years in jail.

DePastino was convicted of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

He was released from jail in 2009.

As a condition of his probation, DePastino had signed a computer access agreement in which he agreed, among other things, not to enter or participate in any bulletin boards, instant messaging, or chat rooms of any type. He was also ordered to stay away from any sexually explicit websites.

Just before Christmas, police said they received information that DePastino had a Facebook account and was trying to contact people online.

On Dec. 28, DePastino's computer was seized and submitted to the police department for inspection, at which time they said they found nearly 1,000 images of child porn. The images were of children, both male and female, engaged in sexual acts with adults.

DePastino was arrested Friday and was charged with possession of child porn. He was held in jail on $100,000 bond. In addition he was charged with violating probation with an additional bond of $250,000.

During DePastino's arrest, a search and seizure warrant was executed but no other evidence was found.

This isn't the first time DePastino has been arrested after being released form jail. In 2010 he was arrested for visiting a park and baseball field in Meriden.
