It's called a BodPod and the egg-shaped device is a new way to test your vital statistics when it comes to health and wellness. The odd machine uses air displacement technology and other devices to measure the amount of fat in your body and your resting metabolic rate.
Even if you know the numbers won't be pretty when it comes to your vitals, it's important to get a measure of them says personal trainer and CEO of Lean Body Metrics David Vaughan.
"From those numbers a personal training program can be developed for those exact results," says Vaughan. "Then as you make progress you can go back in the BodPod to see what progress has been made."
The BodPod is unique to just Vaughan and UNLV here in the valley. It's housed in a truck that can go anywhere people want to check the state of their health.
One of the most important numbers, Vaughan said, is the RMR or the resting metabolic rate. That number gives trainers an idea of how many calories should be consumed to maintain that weight, but more importantly they're able to safely shave off some of those calories to give customers a new, lower caloric goal to shoot for daily.
