CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5/AP) -
A man is in custody for allegedly leaving his infant son alone in his unlocked apartment in Chandler.
Tyler Jeffrey Dotson, 26, was found to be in possession of heroin, police said.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotic drugs and paraphernalia and child abuse and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.
Police said they responded to a call of a burglary in progress about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers found a man matching the description in Dotson, but determined he wasn't involved in the burglary.
Dotson told police he had left his 3-month-old son alone in his apartment about a mile away.
Officers found the child inside the unlocked apartment at 875 W. Pecos Rd. and contacted his mother at work. She took possession of the child and police said they notified state Child Protective Services about the incident.
