New Haven police said they have located a 2-year-old boy that had been missing in Ansonia on Wednesday morning, but continue to look for his father, who is wanted for violating his probation.
Police said 37-year-old Paul Martone and his son, Paulie, had not been seen or heard from since last Thursday. A Silver Alert was issued for two Tuesday night.
Police said they have a warrant for Martone's arrest for violating probation. However, Martone did have legal custody of his son and police said they did not feel Paulie Martone was in danger.
"He is on sex offender registry. However, we did not feel the child was in danger of sexual abuse," said New Haven Police Asst. Chief Archie Generosa. "Courts had given dad custody of this child."
Martone has long criminal history and suffers from mental health issues, police said.
On Tuesday night, Police said Martone left his son with an acquaintance of his.
"I didn't even know about the Silver Alert," the woman, who wished to not be identified, told Eyewitness News.
The woman said Martone dropped off his son for what was supposed to be a "play date" Tuesday night; however, he never returned.
The woman said she never called police. On Wednesday morning, the woman said Martone called her and told her that social services would be picking up his son because he was dealing with psychiatric issues.
"The wool is pulled over my eyes til last second," she said.
Paulie is in the custody of Department of Children and Families, so they can find a safe place for him.
Police said they've talked to the father, but have not been able to locate him. So the Silver Alert remains active.
The New Haven Police Department is asking for the public's help locating Martone. Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 203-946-6316.
