PLAINFIELD, CT (WFSB) -
A 22-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence after a crash during the early morning hours of New Year's Day claimed the life of one of his passengers.
Officers were called to a one-crash on Spaulding Road just after 2 a.m. Jan. 1. Upon arrival, Cory Carlsen, 21, of Sterling was found dead at the scene.
During the police investigation, it was determined a 2004 Ford Explorer being driven by Zachariah Silvestri slammed into a large truck and then rolled over onto its roof.
Silvestri and another passenger was Trevor Swabby, 21, of Sterling, were taken to William W. Backus Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The have since been released from the hospital, police said.
Police later charged Silvestri with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle and operating under the influence. He has released on $75,000 bond and is expected to appear at Superior Court in Danielson on Jan. 22.
