STAMFORD, CT (WFSB) -

The Stamford Superintendent's Office said a student at Westhill High School threw bleach at other students Monday morning.

The superintendent's office said three students were injured in the attack, and all were brought to local hospitals to be treated for injuries.

Officers were called to the school just before 7:30 a.m. after two 14-year-old freshmen girls, who were not identified, were fighting inside the gymnasium.

Four girls watching the fight were sprayed with bleach, however only three girls total were taken to the hospital with injuries, police said.

One of the girls suffered an eye injury after bleach was thrown in her face, police said. One of the girls got bleach on her clothes.

One of the ninth-grade students was released from the hospital, and the others were expected to be released by Monday afternoon. Police said all the injuries were "superficial."

Police said one of the girls had brought the bleach from home and it was a "premeditated attack." The bleach was brought to the school inside a Gatorade bottle, witnesses said.

"It's obviously a terrible thing and you cant just walk around hurting someone you don't even know," said student Cameron Curto. "It's pretty awful."

Students told Eyewitness News that the girl, who started the incident, was being transferred to another school.

One 14-year-old girl was charged with five counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor as well as first-degree assault and criminal attempt at first-degree assault. She was taken to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center, police said.

School officials told Eyewitness News that disciplinary action will be taken.

"With everything that just went down a couple towns away, you would think people would try to be on their best behavior and not cause more issues," said Katelynn Gray of Stamford, referring to the Newtown school shooting.

The Stamford Police Youth Bureau is investigating the attack. Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 203-977-4444.
