The sports world is buzzing with reports that Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt is waiting NFL approval to a contract with Andy Reid.
Hunt met with the former Philadelphia Eagles head coach for nine hours on Wednesday. The two reportedly reached an agreement for Reid to become the new head coach for the Chiefs.
Fans weighed in Thursday on KCTV5's Facebook page, website, the radio talk shows and the office water cooler. Every Chiefs fan seemingly had an opinion.
"I think Andy Reid was the best possible candidate that the Chiefs could have hired," said 610-AM sports talk host Danny Parkins.
Others are also excited and hope reports are true that Reid will bring his own general manager to the team, thus leaving current general manager Scott Pioli without a job.
Jay Binkley, also of 610 Sports, said fans are anxious to see what Pioli's future role, if any, is with the Chiefs before deciding about Reid's hire.
"I think that's the biggest hang-up with fans right now," Binkley said.
Kathleen Tripp looks forward to a better season than the just-completed one that saw the team finish with a 2-14 record and the top pick in the NFL draft this spring.
"Anybody's going to be better than what we've been having," Tripp said. "We need a winning season."
Jeff Rixey also saw the pending hire as a positive.
"I think that's a positive," Rixey said. "It can't get much worse than what we did this year."
But he said ultimately that former coach Romeo Crennel should have been given more time before he was fired.
Austin Shelby said Reid had a good overall record with the Eagles even though he did have an unfortunate ending that resulted in him being fired this weekend. Shelby said Reid would be something to look forward to.
