WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) -
A hostage hoax has led to an arrest in Waterbury.
Police arrested Cheri Zekiri, 35, of Naugatuck after she called in a carjacking and she was being held at gunpoint for $500 ransom.
Investigators found it was all a lie after interviewing Zekiri multiple times.
Police determined that her 2001 Ford Focus was not stolen and Zekiri had sold the car for money to buy drugs.
Zekiri, who has a long criminal history of larceny, forgery, and prostitution convictions, is now charged with second-degree falsely reporting an incident.
