Hazmat crews have removed a nitrogen cylinder from Interstate 10 near Casa Grande, reopening lanes that were shut down nearly five hours Thursday morning.
Arizona Department of Transportation crews depressurized the cylinder before it was towed away after they shut down two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane starting about 7 a.m.
The spill happened about one mile north of State Route 287 on I-10 heading toward Phoenix, according to an ADOT spokesman.
Dustin Krugel of ADOT said a 10-mile-long widening project on that stretch of I-10 was completed in the fall and increased the number of lanes from two to three and helped prevent a bigger traffic impact Thursday.
