MESA, AZ (CBS5) -
A Mesa woman was sentenced to 30 days in jail and four years of supervised probation for leaving her 6-year-old daughter in the care of transients at a park while she sold herself for sex.
Laurie Lee Kelly, 43, was sentenced by Judge Margaret Benny in Superior Court in Mesa on Tuesday morning.
Police said Kelly bought beer for two transients and later asked them to watch her young daughter while she "went to make money" in late August. The transients told police Kelly was gone for hours.
Witnesses told police several people took turns watching the little girl and that she was without water or a way out of the extreme heat for about four hours.
Kelly told police she had sex with a couple men while her daughter was in the park. According to the report, she claimed that she hoped nothing bad would happen to her daughter but she felt a "manic sexual rage" inside of her that she can't control and "needed to have sex."
Kelly was charged with one count of child abuse.
Kelly is employed by Mesa Public Schools as an instructional assistant at Whitman Elementary.
