Community comes together to help family of missing ASU student

Posted: Updated:
TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

It's a story that has rocked the Tempe and ASU communities, and as of Monday there was still no sign of ASU freshman Jack Culolias. He went missing Nov. 30 after leaving a fraternity party at Cadillac Ranch Restaurant and Bar inside Tempe Marketplace. Monday the community did what they could for one another.

Last week Culolias' mom found a shoe belonging to her son in a river basin near Tempe Marketplace, but when search teams scoured the area, they found nothing. Then a woman in a helicopter thought she saw a body floating there, so they searched it once more. And again, they found nothing.

Police have called off the search of the river basin and are now hoping someone comes forward with information.

Fuzzy's Taco Shop on Mill Avenue donated 10 percent of their profits Monday from 3 p.m. to midnight to the Culolias family. The family lives in California, so the community's been working to make sure their expenses are paid when they're here searching for Culolias.

The manager we talked to said this fundraiser holds a special place in their heart.

"He was a regular customer here, he comes in a lot with his fraternity brothers and a couple of our girls were friends with him before," said manager Austin Carlise.

We saw some of Culolias' fraternity brothers at the taco shop, but they declined to talk to us on camera. On the Facebook page Bring Jack Home, several people say they'll search the lake area on their own Tuesday. Visit the page by clicking: http://www.facebook.com/groups/556856114328864/
