A stolen U-Haul containing a Glendale family's house full of belongings has been located, the family said Monday night.
The crooks rummaged through the vehicle and broke some of their items and stole some other belongings.
Kevin and Jenni Presmyk had spent the day trying to add up everything that was stolen.
"Why would somebody do this?" asked Jenni Presmyk. "How desperate must they be to take everything that's important to somebody?"
The Presmyks had just spent the weekend clearing out every room in their Glendale home, off 59th Avenue and the Loop 101 Freeway, and loading all of their belongings onto a 26-foot U-Haul truck.
But the excitement of moving to their new home a few miles away quickly turned into disbelief and despair when the couple woke up Monday morning and saw the U-Haul had been stolen out of the driveway.
"We're still kind of in shock," said Kevin Presmyk. "Every minute that goes on, a new emotion or thought pops into your head. Surely they knew that U-Haul was packed full of everything that we had a lifetime to accumulate."
Some of the items stolen included bedroom furniture, dressers, lamps, electronics, toys, games, family photos and all of their four kids' Christmas presents.
The Presmyks were hoping the crooks would leave some personal items behind. Specifically, they want back medical supplies and a breathing treatment machine for their 6-month-old son, who has a number of health issues.
"There are certain things that are important in life and certain things are not," said Kevin Presmyk. "We'll get by. We'll rebuild and get as much replaced as we can."
"We'll do the best we can," said Jenni Presmyk. "Our kids know the real meaning of Christmas."
Friends and neighbors had spent the day trying to organize a collection of donations to help the family out.
