New Britain police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a CVS early Tuesday morning.
Police said the incident occurred at the 24-hour CVS Pharmacy on West Main Street just before 4 a.m. Police said the suspect brandished a knife and made away with an undisclosed amount of pills from the store's pharmacy.
According to police, the suspect is described as a white man who was wearing a black jacket and black pants with white sneakers. He was wearing a camouflage mask over his face.
Police said none of the employees were harmed during the incident.
"It isn't the first one we've had in the city," said New Britain police Sgt. Jeanette Saccente. "I hope it doesn't become a trend. It happened before, I believe at the Walgreens on Washington Street."
In this instance, investigators were able to get a good description thanks to the employees. But more importantly, there are a number of cameras throughout the CVS, including one that captures everyone who enters and exits through the front door.
"We do have surveillance video right now, looking at it," Saccente said. "Right now it's in its infancy so we're looking to see what leads we have at this point."
Customers visiting the store Tuesday morning while police conducted their investigation were not shocked by the robbery.
"It bothers me but doesn't surprise me," said Thomas Mehan of New Britain.
Anyone with information should call the New Britain Police Department at 860-826-3000.
"I just hope he gets some help and leaves the CVS in New Britain alone," Mehan said.
