Man accused of doing bad floor work still looking for business
By WFSB Staff
ENFIELD, CT (WFSB) -
A man called Eyewitness News after he said a company did a bad job of installing new flooring in his home and has not responded to his requests to have it repaired.
"He basically left me with hell," said Bruce Ceramicole of Willington. "And it's been months."
Neighboring businesses told Eyewitness News that they haven't seen anyone at Concrete Repair Solutions, which is based in Enfield, but Eyewitness News found out the company is still advertising.
However, Ceramicole wants to know how that can be because he says Concrete Repair Solutions washed its hands of his job and never looked back.
For about two years, Ceramicole had an epoxy on the floor in his garage by Concrete Repair Solutions and gave them $1,000 up front. A week later, Ceramicole gave the company $2,600, which they requested, to the owner John Zera.
"He wanted it made out to himself," Ceramicole said.
Sheets of the epoxy can be pulled up and other parts are just chipping away. And the damage has caused Ceramicole to be unable to work on maintaining his hot rod collection for the past eight months.
"My whole heart and soul is in this building," he said.
Ceramicole said the first problem was when Zera allowed pockets of air to form without covering it up. Then, he did not sand the floor before applying the epoxy.
"We talked a little bit and said he'd have to come back and sand the whole thing," Ceramicole said about his last face-to-face conversation with Zera.
Zera never came back, according to Ceramicole, even after he called him multiple times. When Ceramicole was finally able to reach Zera by phone.
"And he said, 'You know Bruce, I've got rid of all my epoxy, and I can't do anything for you,'" Ceramicole said he was told by Zera.
Since the conversation, Ceramicole has been unable to reach Zera.
Concrete Repair Solutions on Moody Street was locked up in the middle of the workday when Eyewitness News visited it. Zera did not answer the door at his Suffield home, either.
Eyewitness News has learned that Zera is not a registered contractor and any repair over $200 at a home requires a home improvement contractor registration. As of Thursday, Zera didn't have one.
"He just tried to cover things up," Ceramicole said. "And he got deeper and deeper and deeper to the point he just ran."
However, Concrete Repair Solutions is still advertising on the town's Patch website.
"At the beginning, he seemed very believable like a decent guy, but he got me good," Ceramicole said.
Eyewitness News reached Zera by phone, but he had no comment on the situation involving Ceramicole. He hung up the phone when he was asked why he was not a registered contractor.
Ceramicole said he's frustrated and doesn't want the hassle of going through the courts. He plans to find another contractor and basically pay twice for a job that should've been done once.
