FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5) -
A Valle, AZ, teen was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary after he was caught on a game camera installed by one of his victims.
Winston Gallagher, 18, was booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on one count of residential burglary, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of misdemeanor theft and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
There have been at least eight residential burglaries during the past six months in the Valle area, which is located between Williams and the entrance to the Grand Canyon.
During one of the investigations, Coconino County sheriff's deputies and a homeowner discussed the idea of posting game cameras in strategic locations around his home in the event the suspect returned for a second burglary.
On Oct. 31, the homeowner reported his residence had been broken into again. A police sergeant viewed the images and recognized the suspect from previous encounters, according to Coconino County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Gerry Blair.
Sheriff's investigators said when they contacted Gallagher at a home in Valle on Nov. 21, the teen made statements implicating him in the first burglary.
On Saturday, deputies received an anonymous tip that led to the search of an out-building on Gallagher's property. During the search, detectives said they recovered about 20 items believed to have been taken during residential burglaries.
Sheriff's officials received more information that Gallagher frequently stayed at two different homes located in the Valle area. On Tuesday, deputies served search warrants at both homes identified by the caller. They recovered 30 mores items believed to have been taken during at least three of the burglaries that have been reported, Blair said.
Detectives are continuing this investigation and additional charges are anticipated.
Anyone who lives in the Valle, AZ, area and has experienced a residential burglary within the last year is urged to report the crime to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office at 928-774-4523.
