A Mesa woman is in jail on suspicion of punching and kicking an office worker who wouldn't hand over her cell phone, police said.
Taylen Holmes, 18, was booked into jail on one count of robbery.
Holmes approached the woman Tuesday morning outside an office building at 5501 N. 19th Ave.
The victim said Holmes asked if she could use her phone and, when the office worker told her she could not, Holmes struck her on the face and head, police said.
The victim fell to the ground and Holmes kicked her, according to officers.. Holmes then took the victim's purse and cell phone and fled the area.
Officers working bike patrol in the Christown Mall area immediately began searching for the suspect and found Holmes in an apartment complex at 1735 West Missouri Ave. about 15 minutes after the initial robbery.
The victim is expected to be OK.
