Man wanted in four counties arrested after police chase

A 19-year-old Litchfield man wanted in four counties was arrested Thursday night after a police pursuit with the Brunswick Hills Police Department.

Police say a Brunswick Hills officer attempted to pull over a red Chevrolet 4-door sedan that was being driven west bound on Route 303 for suspicion of driving under an OVI suspension.  When the officer activated his overhead lights, the driver of the vehicle accelerated and ignored the officer's signal to pull over.

"The officer observed a lot of movement inside the vehicle by the occupants and the passenger began throwing objects out of the window" said Chief Sharon MacKay in a press release.

Finally, south bound on Erhart Rd. at Speith Rd. in Litchfield, the suspect vehicle slowed to a stop.

Police say they believed the suspects were going to bail out and run south Brunswick Hills officer pulled alongside the suspect vehicle.

Authorities say the driver is Brandon J. Elder, and he put the vehicle in reverse and struck the rear quarter panel of the police vehicle. The officer repositioned his vehicle and the two vehicles collided a second time. Elder then exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot into a corn field.

Elder was taken into custody without incident by the Medina County Sheriff's Office and the Medina Police Department at 02:58am Friday morning north in a field west of Lester in Medina County and booked on the five outstanding warrant.

A passenger was also detained at the scene and cited for open container and littering.  

Charges are pending, awaiting final review by the Medina County Prosecutor's Office.
