Connecticut residents getting new car for Christmas

MANCHESTER, CT. (WFSB) -

Black Friday is the start to the holiday shopping season, but Connecticut residents may have been noticing holiday car ads on their television for quite a few weeks now.

And now car companies like Lexus are marketing their vehicles as the ultimate toy for the holidays. But is anyone actually unwrapping them?

"We do actually see people buy cars for Christmas every year, a couple here and there," said Mike Lynch of Lynch Toyota.

Lynch said there's not a lot, but people do come into his Toyota dealership looking for that big gift. Working out the surprise can be just as much fun for them.

"I helped by delivering the car at night on Christmas Eve and we put a big bow in the driveway, and he was surprised when he woke up the next morning," Lynch said.

Jim Fleming said a few years ago he and his wife were in the market for a new car anyway, so he decided to make it her gift.

"She was very surprised, put a little bow on it and put a ribbon in the tree and she followed that ribbon out on Christmas morning," he said.

This year Joe DeVola's wife may be getting the same gift.

"She's been good so, I'll get her a car," he said.

And DeVola is not worried about his wife finding out about the surprise gift. He said it's worth the try anyway.

"You gotta pay for that extra bow, it's an extra $50 bucks but it's worth it," he said. "I did it for her birthday a couple years ago, so she'll be surprised if I do it again for Christmas."
