Piled up trash a problem for Hartford tenants

Posted: Updated:
HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Hartford residents contacted Eyewitness News about a large, growing pile of garbage outside their apartment complex on Garden Street. And once WFSB was contacted, the pile has been cleaned up.

The tenants said it had not been picked up for three weeks and the pile was getting larger and larger by the day.

"Getting kind of ridiculous. I mean I sit up on the third floor and watch it pile up," said one Hartford resident. "It's getting kinda old, kinda fast."

Beyond just what tenants call an eyesore, they said they also have concerns about potential health issues.

"I've seen possums, lately," said Chase Garrett, of Hartford. "A lot of rodents have been coming around since they have food to eat and they have a home."

However, the managers, when they did talk to us, disputed that fact and insisted Monday all the trash would be gone soon.

"Garbage will be picked up today," said an unidentified member of the apartments management told Eyewitness News.

The garbage was cleaned up by noon Monday. According to an employee at Windsor Sanitation, which handles trash pickup at the Garden Street apartments, the delay in cleanup was caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Management could not explain anything further than that.
