The fourth annual Emergency of Hunger food drive kicks off this weekend at several grocery stores in northern Connecticut.
Food, personal care items, turkeys, cash and gift cards are being collected by firefighters and police officers at Stop and Shop locations in Vernon, Rockville, Manchester, South Windsor and Windsor. The drives will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Drive organizers say it's all about helping other people during the holidays.
"Our other goal this year is to make an all out push by accepting all donations from each town throughout the Food Drive time frame. If any schools, places of business, health care facilities, or other organizations want to collect food to add to the totals we are encouraging them to do so and will provide the support they need," said David Skoczulek of the Manchester Ambulance. "They can contact the participating agencies in their town for details."
