Woman said she was never paid to go door-to-door for political employee

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

One political action committee worked to get Chris Murphy elected and re-elect President Barack Obama, but according to an investigation by Eyewitness News, they couldn't spare a few hundred dollars to pay the workers who helped to get them in office.

Natasha King worked for the political action committee "Working for Us" during the 2012 campaign and she would be the first to admit that she didn't do it because she was a Murphy supporter.

"I would say this was more of a job," King said.

King worked as canvasser for the PAC going door-to-door to help with the 2012 senate race. Her job was supposed to pay $13 per hour.

"I actually thought that was a good deal," King said.

However, once the election ended, King did not receive a paycheck.

"After he won and I kinda did my job for them," King said. "Now that I'm asking for my money, nobody's responding to me."

When Eyewitness News contacted the PAC's number, the mailbox was full. And after several months, the PAC has left its building on Arbor Street in Hartford without a trace.

"That Friday, they packed up and left," King said.

Eyewitness News discovered that Working for Us works out of Washington D.C.

According to OpenSecrets.org, which is a website that tracks political money, the PAC spent more than $300,000 helping the Murphy campaign.

Yet King's not the only one who got stiffed. Another worker told Eyewitness News that no paycheck has been sent following the election.

"Your landlord don't want to hear 'My check is late,'" King said. "It's kinda making me look bad."
