The Griswold High School as well as several public parks and private property in Jewett City were attacked by graffiti artists.
While the resident state troopers search for those responsible, neighbors are organizing block watch programs to deter the crimes.
According to state police, the vandals spray-painted anti-Semitic and racist language, profanity and swastikas on a half dozen targets in Jewett City including the skate park, the high school and the former Zuckerbraun's Department Store on North Main Street.
The signs and concrete at the skate park and the scoreboard at Whiteley Field were also vandalized.
The resident state troopers office is investigating the crimes and a reward is being offered to help prosecute those responsible.
A lot of the damage has already been cleaned, yet neighbors and the Anti-Defamation League said this kind of vandalism is on the rise.
The Anti-Defamation League states Connecticut ranks sixth nationwide in anti-Semitic incidents with a rise in cases over the past three years. There were 24 anti-Semitic incidents in 2009, 38 in 2010 and 43 last year.
Local residents such as Aaron Wing are planning to start a block watch in order to fight the crime.
"We had a meeting the other Thursday about trying to get more awareness in the neighborhood about other kids causing havoc like this," he said. "There is no need for it."
Jennifer Babcock enjoys taking her son to the playground next to the skate park, which was sparred from damage.
"Its just sad that happens around here," she said. "It's such a nice place to come to and he enjoys it."
If anyone has information as to who may be responsible for this damage is asked to call the resident troopers office at 860-376-2583.
