SILVER CITY, NM (CBS5) -
Christmas is right around the corner, and that means it's time to start searching the forest for the perfect tree.
But before you cut, you'll need a permit. Permits for cutting trees on the Gila National Forest will be available at all Ranger District offices starting Monday, Nov. 19.
Families can get one permit. They are $5 each. Permits for piñon trees are free. A Christmas tree tag, cutting regulations, and map are included with the permit.
Any tree species up to 10 feet high may be cut.
