TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -
No matter who you ask, the consensus is pretty much the same: Parking at Arizona State University can be a real drag.
"I have been late to class because I couldn't find parking," said ASU student Lene Thompson."This morning, actually, I didn't go to class because I came too late."
But for those willing to pay the price, there might be some respite. There are signs cropping up on campus touting a valet parking service.
"This takes a lot of pressure away for a lot of students who are late for class," said Carlos Cushinberry of American Valet. "They can pull in right up front. We get them ticketed, get them out of here and they're in class on time."
With the rising cost of tuition, books and other fees, some might consider the added service a bit pricey at $5 an hour and up to $20 for all-day parking.
"It's not worth it to me, especially if you can get a flat rate parking for $8 maximum anywhere else," Thompson said.
But some students said otherwise.
A parking permit at ASU's main campus in Tempe can range anywhere between $200 and $800 a year.
Abdullah Al-Brahim said he uses the valet once or twice a week for a couple of hours, spending much less than a permit would cost.
"I want to pass my classes," Al-Brahim said."I don't want to miss five minutes of a class just to find a spot."
American Valet said this is the first year of its service on ASU's campus and that it is still too early to know if it'll continue next year.
