Eric Tuttle's mug shot when he was arrested in Ohio County.
SELIGMAN, AZ (CBS5) -
A 39-year-old Yavapai County man who had been on the loose after he threatened to kill a Seligman family was arrested in West Virginia Thursday, sheriff's investigators said.
Eric Tuttlestole the family's pickup truck and three dogs on Tuesday, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said.
The family - a 78-year-old man, his 77-year-old wife and 54-year-old daughter - had allowed Tuttle to stay on their property but had decided to ask him to leave.
Tuttle began assaulting the daughter Tuesday afternoon inside a locked vehicle, Yavapai County sheriff's investigators said. Her mom and dad tried to rescue her, but Tuttle refused to open the door, YCSO said. Tuttle finally climbed out of the vehicle and assaulted her dad with a shovel, deputies said. He then attacked the daughter again by striking her with the shovel, YCSO said.
Tuttle then ordered all three to sit together and threatened to kill them before eventually escorting the group into a travel trailer. He had the daughter bind her mom's and dad's hands with duct tape and then he bound the daughter.
On Wednesday, law enforcement officers said they had possibly spotted the stolen pickup in Missouri. Tuttle got away from authorities following a police pursuit on the stolen vehicle.
Police located Tuttle on Thursday afternoon in a department store in Ohio County.
They recovered the victim's truck and one of the stolen dogs. Tuttle told deputies the other two dogs were lost "somewhere in Arizona."
Tuttle was booked at the North Regional Jail in West Virginia as he awaits extradition. His bond is set at $100,000.
