New Haven officers step up patrols in Sandy affected areas

Posted: Updated:
NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

The New Haven Police Department has assigned officers to areas that have been affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Officers were also patrolling areas without power to help deter crime and provide residents with safety information.

"Those that don't live or need to be in a darkened neighborhood are dissuaded from entering," according to a release from the police department.

They are also blocking off roads and preventing people from getting too close to damage.

"We would like to remind people that a road that was passable following the storm, may be shut down for a while, days later, for such maintenance," according to a release from the police department.

As work progress and power is restored, officers will step back patrols.
