School vandals steal food at Rimrock High

Posted: Updated:

Three students have been arrested in connection with vandalism earlier this month at Rimrock High School in Lake Montezuma, Yavapai County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies said they are close to catching a fourth suspect involved in the crimes. The suspects range in age from 11 to 13 and all attend Beaver Creek Elementary School nearby.

Sheriff's investigators said the youths broke into a school bus at Rimrock High on Oct. 19, stole a fire extinguisher from inside the vehicle and sprayed its contents all over the exterior of the bus.

The students then used the fire extinguisher and a shovel to smash open a hole in the door of the school to gain entry. Once inside, they stole food and smashed out a window, deputies said. The total damage done to the bus and school is estimated at more than $2,000.

Deputies said they gathered evidence from the scene, including video surveillance recordings along with fingerprint and shoe sole impressions.

On Oct. 23, school administrators were able to identify the four suspects.

Investigators found one of the suspects, age 12, at his Rimrock home on Friday. The suspect admitted to the burglary and confirmed the identity of his three accomplices. The youth was arrested and taken to the Prescott Juvenile Detention Center where he was booked on charges including burglary, criminal trespassing, criminal damage and theft.

On Tuesday, two additional suspects, ages 13 and 11, were arrested at Beaver Creek School and booked on the same charges. Deputies learned the fourth suspect had since moved from the area. They said he is expected to be arrested soon.
