GILBERT, AZ (CBS5) -

It's a dream come true for Kerry Bellessa, a local director from Gilbert, as his new film hits the big screen this Friday.

The movie Amber Alert centers around the question, "What would you do?"

"What does the license plate say on the sign? That's the car. Oh, my gosh, that's the car," scream the stars of the film.

The heart-stopping moment when crossing paths with a real-life kidnapper is the stuff that makes Bellessa's first film.

The story follows a couple of friends who set out to make a video of themselves for reality TV when they realize that every second counts and they have to make a decision when they come upon a car described in an Amber Alert.

The 35-year-old Gilbert filmmaker said the idea came to life during a talk with his wife, after they spotted a digital sign with a life-threatening situation involving a child.

"We had like this hour-long discussion, 'What would you do if you saw the car that was on the Amber Alert sign?,'" said Bellessa, whose wife is one of the stars in the film.

Bellessa owns a video production company where he earns a living making commercials and music videos. He's been waiting to make a movie for 10 years.

He's seen Amber Alert hundreds of times, but watching it on the big screen for the first time Friday night will be a fairy tale for this local guy.

"It's a dream come true. This is something I've been wanting to do since I was a kid," said Bellessa. "They'll either love me or hate me. I don't know."

Amber Alert has been on Video on Demand and opens in limited release Friday.

It's playing at Shea 14 in Scottsdale, where Bellessa plans to watch among the crowd.
