Snakes out in full force this Halloween

Posted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Halloween is around the corner and you may run into some angry neighbors - snakes. Because the weather is cool at night, they come out of hiding.

The Phoenix Herpetological Society said around this time of year they average four to 10 calls a day of a snake in a garage or yard.

When the temperatures get below 80 degrees, snakes won't be a problem because they'll be hibernating but right now, they're out in force.

"They move in closer to the house where your house is made of brick, your patio is made of stone, and those are warmer surface areas where they like to stay and stay as warm as they can," said Daniel Marchand with the society.

So what can you do? Bring a flashlight and if your kid drops a piece of candy in a bush, don't let them pick it up right away. Also stay on lit paths and don't cut across people's yards.
